Fire in Vineyard

Fire in Vineyard

A difficult start of spring for wine producers. The remarkable drop in temperatures has created many problems. Many wine producers were forced to set fire to rolls of straw in order to warm vines during the freezing nights.

The common action put in place by the vine-dressers was deemed necessary to preserve the vines which at this time of the year are at the beginning of their vegetative phase. Thanks to the fire and the smoke produced by the big rolls of straw placed in the vineyards, it was possible to heat the air, thus preserving, as much as possible, vines in their vegetative state. The result will be seen in a few days in the buds. Straw does not generate fire but a smoke which remains low in height and therefore allows the heating of the air. Moreover straw burns slowly and, when wet, produces more smoke with a slower fire.

At the first light of dawn the columns of smoke dispersed among the sweet hills certainly did not go unnoticed, giving passers-by rare images that smell of ancient techniques of preservation and care of vine passed down from generation to generation. Nights of work in the vineyards, a sharing experience for the vintners themselves and a sight to be seen by the curious. A demonstration of passion and attachment to the work in vineyards.

For this and many other reasons, wine is also love.
