Castello di Ama is a farm that was born in the seventies by the work of the family of Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti, inspired by the picturesque landscapes of Chianti, they wanted to revive an area that was historically successful. Located at Ama, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, in the province of Siena, the farm has five beautiful vineyards along 89 acres endorse, around the village. At 500 meters high above sea level, the soils are characterized by different exposures and structures, whose names come from tradition, having been inspired by the surrounding villages or by the local characteristics: the “Bellavista” Vineyard stretches on stony ground , clay and limestone it is hit by the heat of the sun to the south-southwest, the “Casuccia” Vineyard is exposed to the west-southwest and has a very clayey soil crossed from the skeleton, the “San Lorenzo” Vineyard has in its heart a little church of the 15th century, which stands on a limestone floor watching the sun in the east-southeast, the “Bertinga” Vineyard has a varied soil that opens mostly at west and finally the “Montebuoni” Vineyard has an extremely varied composition extending to south-southwest. The history of Castello di Ama’s wine production begins in the 18th century, when it was already reported as the “best place in the Chianti wines” by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo d’Asburgo Lorena, who visited Ama in 1773 and sang its praises to the government of Tuscany. There is a plaque that commemorates these words of admiration, which continues saying that “Around the castle of Ama there are the most beautiful hills and valleys in all Chianti, with meticulously cultivated and fertile grain, olive trees, and vineyards” to emphasize that “The vineyards of Ama are well exposed, sunny, all maintained as well as gardens: this part is the most fertile and most renowned in Chianti”. The excellence of the golden days is back now brighter than ever, as evidenced by the awards that have crowned it: while the owner Marco won the title of Winemaker of the Year in 2003 by Wine Guide Gambero Rosso, for the two consecutive terms, from 2006 to 2012, won the title of president of the Consortium of Chianti Classico and in 2005 the farm was declared the Best of the year.
